What is "Legalism?"

The terms "Legalism" & "Legalist" are not used in the Bible, but the concepts are.

"Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." ---Galatians 2:16

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. ---Ephes. 2:8-10

"Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." ---Romans 3:31

"Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good." ---Romans 7:12
